Italy is a remarkable destination for travelers with food allergies. Its commitment to using simple, fresh, and natural ingredients not only makes Italian cuisine taste amazing but also minimizes the presence of common allergens.

When traveling to Italy, careful preparation is essential. Bring a kit with all your medications, including extra epinephrine auto-injectors (EIAs). In Italy, epinephrine is called “adrenalina.” Food Allergy Italia recommends carrying an Emergency Care Plan signed by a physician, which outlines recommended treatment in case of an allergic reaction. Be sure to understand policies for carrying medication on board the aircraft. You can keep your epinephrine with you in the cabin, but showing the printed label that identifies the medication is recommended.
